Rovings, Batts, and Fiber!

Below are a few of our current wool products available for purchase. Fleeces are skirted aggressively. We wash fleeces once unless you ask that we don't, however, this will save you valuable dollars on shipping costs and ensures a fresher product at your door. Our roving and small batts are all hand processed from start to finish. The larger quilt batts are sent to an outside mill for processing. We hope to offer some dyed products in the future, however currently we only handle natural and natural colors.

English Leicester fleeces average 11-15 pounds. The English Leicester fleece has a well-defined crimp and falls in the 30-36 micron range. The fleece is long, curly, lustrous with staple lengths from 8 to 12 inches. Currently we have both white English Leicester rovings and naturally black/silver English Leicester rovings. We will sell loose English Leicester fleece.

Wensleydale fleeces average 13-20 pounds annually. Wensleydale fleece has a well-defined crimp and falls in the 37-40 micron range. The fleece is long, tightly curled, and super-lustrous with staple lengths from 8-12 inches. Wensleydale fiber is generally considered the finest of all the longwool breeds. Currently we have both white Wensleydale rovings and naturally black/brown Wensleydale fiber. We will sell loose Wensleydale fleece.

Black Welsh Mountain fleeces average 2-5 pounds annually. Black Welsh Mountain fleece is a dark black or reddish black called cuchddu. The wool is short, dense and firm to handle in the 25-33 micron range. We offer Black Welsh Mountain rovings.

Wool products!

Wool batts are ideal for hand quilting, with the needle slipping easily through the wool.

  • Wool is hypo-allegenic. Due to tiny amount of remaining lanolin in the wool, dust mites are unable to survive. The wool also absorbs moisture allowing it to evaporate thus reducing the growth of microbes and bacteria.
  • Wool is temperature regulating. Wool is able to keep you warm in the winter, and cool in the summer because of its insulating properties. In the summer a wool mattress pad can wick moisture away from your body cooling it in the process. Synthetic fibers can only absorb about 2-3% of moisture before feeling damp, wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight without feeling wet. Maintaining a consistent body temperature through out the night has been found to be an important factor in experiencing a sound, and comfortable sleep.
We hope to offer pillows and mattress pads early this fall. Please email us to reserve your item as we will have limited availabilty. Use our quilt batts and make your own comforter.
  • Wool is also naturally flame resistant. Making wool bedding products a safer choice for your home.
